In ShortBlack couples live this life the same way we do, with the same conversations and the same fears and the same slow build. The internet just never showed them to you. If you are a Black wife wondering whether there is anybody out there like you, there is. There always was.
I wrote an article for Black men who want the Cuckold side, and the response told me something I did not expect. A lot of the messages came from wives.
Some were curious. Some were worried. A few were angry, which is fair, because when a husband finally says this out loud it usually lands on a woman who has had no time to prepare for it. But almost all of them asked a version of the same question.
Where are the couples who look like us?
I did not have a good answer. So I want to say what I do know.
What the internet shows you, and what it leaves out
If a Black couple goes looking for this life online, here is what they find. Videos with a white husband and a Black Bull. Caption accounts built entirely around one stereotype. Forums where a woman asking an honest question gets replies from men who are not talking to her, they are talking at her.
What they do not find is a marriage. Two people at a kitchen table at midnight trying to find the words. A wife who is intrigued and terrified in the same breath. A husband who has carried something for years and finally said it.
That is what this actually is, for everybody who lives it. The lifestyle is a small percentage of our life. The marriage is the rest.
To the wife reading this
Whatever you felt when he told you is allowed. Hurt is allowed. Confusion is allowed. Anger is allowed. A small secret flicker of curiosity is also allowed, even if it surprises you.
I want to be honest with you about my own timeline, because people assume I said yes easily. I did not. I was completely against it for years. My husband brought it up in pieces for over two decades before we ever did anything, and I said no for most of them. I was raised to be a good girl. I was sheltered from the idea that I had any power at all, let alone that I was allowed to use it.
You do not have to decide anything tonight. You do not have to decide anything this month. You do not have to decide anything ever, if it is not right for you.
But I will tell you what I found on the other side of it, because nobody told me. I found a version of myself I had never been given the conditions to develop. Confidence I did not know I had. A marriage with far more room in it than I thought.
The thing that makes it work, and it is not the sex
Every couple who does this well has the same thing underneath it. Not compatibility, not matching fantasies, not the right rules. Honesty. The specific, uncomfortable, this is what I actually want kind that most marriages never reach.
If you have that, the rest figures itself out. If you do not have that, this lifestyle is not your answer. Honesty is. Build that first, and whatever comes after, yes or no or never or maybe, will be the right answer for your marriage.
On the extra weight
I am not going to pretend the stigma is the same for everyone, because it is not.
Everybody in this life pays a stigma tax. But the couples who write to me carry an extra load. Manhood gets policed hard everywhere and harder in some rooms than others. Women get judged for their desire everywhere and harder in some rooms than others. And porn spent decades telling Black men their only value here is a body part, which is its own kind of insult when what you actually want is to be the man in the chair watching your wife shine.
That is not my lane to lecture anybody about. I will just say what I know from the inside. Choosing where you surrender, and to whom, and on what terms, is one of the most powerful things two people can do together.
So, are there couples like you?
Yes. I have talked to them. They are careful, they are private, and most of them will never post a word about it, which is exactly why you cannot find them.
That is the whole problem. Everybody is hiding, so everybody thinks they are the only ones.
I am running an anonymous survey, no name and no email, and when enough people have answered I am going to publish what we learn. Not statistics for their own sake. Proof. So the next couple who goes searching at 2am finds real people instead of a porn category.
